This cylindrical carton may appear to be a fairly low-tech food protection solution, so you may be surprised to learn that it's been designed for ripening cheese. Low-tech it actually is, for Minas Cheese packaging is made from thick card that forms a rounded box, yet it's the geometric perforations in the paper that make it special.

Iwana Raydan worked to create a customized container for the popular and traditional Minas Gerais cheese of Brazil. Made from raw milk, this type of cheese in only legal to sell if it's had more than 60 days of maturation. With this ripening cheese box, this product can be prepared and packaged completely, enabling it to undergo its necessary processes passively as it awaits a place on the shop shelf.
