The San Jose Sharks has done the unexpected and signed a player based on a one-day hockey contract. Eleven-year-old Sam Tageson is now officially a member of the NHL franchise, despite his medical condition.

Sam, who is a life-long Sharks fan, has only two heart chambers instead of four. The condition is supposed to be debilitating, but Sam refuses to let it stop him from reaching his dreams. He has continued to play hockey since he was six, though doctors always advise him to drop the stick and pick up a less active sport.

Before the Shark's game on Tuesday, Sam was featured on the jumbotron before the game. He was overcome with emotion as he realized he had achieved his dream and proved his doctors wrong. Though he didn't play in the game, he got to sit on the bench with the players and practice with them. Stats for Philanthropic Hockey Contracts Trending: Older & Average
