Barbara Franc Creates Metal Birds Made of Discarded Materials

By: Jonathon Brown - Published: • References: barbarafranc & thisiscolossal
These metal birds by Barbara Franc almost look frozen in time. Franc is a talented artist who has an affinity for working with metals and this collection of scrap metal songbirds is her latest creation.

These birds are a product of old food tins and other pieces of discarded metals. Franc takes the metals, cuts them and manipulates them to give the birds lifelike contours and colors. Franc is known for her work with metals, as she's also created horses, fish and chickens.

I have always been fascinated by the shapes and sculptural forms of animals, they present a never-ending source of inspiration to me," says Franc. "I increasingly use recycled and discarded materials as I enjoy the challenge of transforming something with a past history into something new and exciting."
