Megre Interiors have redesigned a bathhouse in St. Petersburg that perfectly balances historicism and modernity. The Fonarnye Bani bathhouse had remained closed for 15 years until Megre Interiors came in and completely elevated the 150-year-old bathhouse. The designers visualized the space within the context of modernity and designed a bathhouse that balances the old and the new.
Megre Interiors collected fragmented pieces found in the dilapidated building - such as doors, rods, and cornices - and used these elements within the design to create a space that speaks to the site's history. In the lobby, patrons are welcomed in by an all-white contemporary space that uses thin black lines to accentuate the original architectural arches. The architects even replicated the floor tiling pattern that was once used in the building 150 years ago.
Guests are now welcomed to enjoy this relaxing historical site.
