Nearly 1 km in length, the pool at Chile’s San Alfonso del Mar is so large that tourists actually cruise along in sail boats and kayaks.

The 250,000 cubic meter mega pool has already been acknowledged by Guiness as the world’s largest pool.  In fact, it holds as much water as 6,000 standard pools.

Spluch notes, “The revolutionary clear water artificial lagoons, transparent to a depth of 35 meters and unprecedented in design and construction methods, are the brainchild of Crystal Lagoons founder, biochemist and Chilean businessman Fernando Fischmann.”

Oh, fantastic! Yes, let's replicate this around the world and waste that much more water! Did anyone even consider the environmental impact of a pool of this magnitude? Even a small pool wastes a large amount of water through cleaning processes and evaporation. I can't imagine the impact this monstrosity would cause, for what? To get a page in the Guinness Book?
