 Lance Armstrong Travels to Mexico to Kick Off LIVESTRONG Initiative Published: Mar 1, 09 Views: 2,522 Over the weekend, Lance Armstrong headed to Mexico to meet with President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa to officially kick off the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign. According to MSNBC, President Calderón pledged to support the LIVESTRONG campaign; he and Armstrong discussed their cancer prevention goals before an audience of 400 members of the media and children. Directly after the meeting with President Calderón, Lance Armstrong traveled to Oaxaca City. There, MSNBC reports that on Sunday, he waved the starting flag at the Vuelta Mexico Telmex cycling race.  LAF research indicates that silence and shame are often associated with cancer in Mexico, where there are about 150,000 new cancer cases diagnosed each year and 64,000 deaths. The LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign will work with the NGO community to address the stigma and silence in compelling ways that begin to reduce the burden of cancer by opening up the lines of communication between families, healthcare providers and cancer survivors.
