The Hoope Ring Can Detect Four Common Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Rahul Kalvapalle — August 25, 2015 — Fashion
The Hoope ring is an innovative piece of wearable technology that is capable of accurately diagnosing a number of sexually transmitted diseases including syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomoniasis -- and rapidly at that.
Users begin by using the Hoope's electric pulse generator to numb their skin. They then press a button on the ring, which causes a retractable needle to come out. The needle then draws a blood sample, which is carried to the ring's on-board 'laboratory'.
The blood is then exposed to different antigens that have been synthesized to capture antibodies associated with each targeted disease. If antibodies are present and captured, a special electrochemical reaction occurs and is picked up.
The Hoope could make it easier than ever for people to carry out potentially life-saving diagnostic processes on their own.
