Zac Sunderland is a 17-year-old high school student whose attendance record is far from perfect. In fact, he hasn’t stepped foot in his school for 7 months, as he is attempting to sail around the world in his 36-foot sailboat—alone—a feat that would make him the youngest solo sailor to circumnavigate the globe.

Zac took off from Marina del Rey, California on June 14th, 2008 and is currently at the southern tip of Africa. His position, his story, and a daily blog can be found at the link below.

Not the first and not the youngesst...In 1965, Robin Lee Graham at the age of 16, set out to sail around the world. He had two kittens for company, was married along the way, and after almost five years, sailed back into his home port. He wrote three books that I know of, Dove, Home Is the Sailor, and The Boy Who Sailed 'Round the World.
