Be still your beating heart, because your 80s dreams are about to come true: a Heathers Musical is in development.

For those who are unaware, the controversial satire was the original 'Mean Girls,' a film about navigating the shark-infested waters of high school, starring Winona Ryder as a Veronica trying to infiltrate a clique of "Heathers." Though the 1988 dark comedy, written by Daniel Waters, was a commercial flop, it quickly rocketed into cult classic status.

The off Broadway show is being developed by composer Laurence O'Keefe, the man partially responsible for Legally Blonde's musical transition from film to stage, writer Kevin Murphy and director Andy Fickman. One can only hope that Ryder and Shannen Doherty (the most legendary of the Heathers) are available for casting.
