No matter what kind of music you listen to, your neck takes a real beating at a concert. Stevie Wonder: side to side; metal: violent up and down; country: thrust chin forward. So in addition to ear plugs, Dr. Andrew McIntosh is recommending that concertgoers wear a neck brace. I’m guessing he probably would recommend it for headbanging musicians too. The study showed that an average headbanging song with a tempo of 146 beats a minute is likely to cause mild injury if the head’s range of motion is greater than 75 degrees.
