Years ago, when design student Desirai Labrada came across John Henry in a deathmatch while playing Halo online, she probably didn’t suspect she’d end up marrying him in a Halo-themed wedding ceremony.

It’s probably the dream of most little girls to walk down the aisle to Halo’s signature theme song being performed by a string quartet. This January, Desirai actually got to live the dream when she married her Halo Honey in a public ceremony in Orlando during Otronicon, an annual event celebrating gaming and gamers.

Desirai’s dress bore her avatar embroidered onto the white silk, and officiating over the ceremony was Halo’s Master Chief, helmet and all. The reception was soon turned over to bloodthirsty Halo deathmatches, sticky grenade party favors and, of course, media interviews.

No word on where the honeymoon was, but I figure it wasn’t too far away from an Xbox.

Ummmm, wow. I think I will share a quick statistic:Online dating sites such as eHarmony.com and Perfectmatch.com have seen business increase dramatically during the downturn. At eHarmony, registrations from September 2008 to January 2009 have increased 20 percent from the same period a year ago.

The sites attribute part of the increased interest to the fact that people are staying home to save money and spending more time on their computers. Finding someone online is simply more cost-effective than paying for overpriced drinks at a bar.

I can understand wanting to marry someone after you've played hours of Wii tennis and gotten all worked up. Hale involves no physical activity.
