Google Pushes Mobile Platform

Google has announcing the Android Developer Challenge, the $10 million in prize money is for developers that create applications that advance Google's new Android mobile operating system. Google leads the Open Handset Alliance, a group of 30 technology companies that have come together to basically compete against Microsoft and other proprietary mobile operating systems.

Implications - Smartphone applications, or apps as it's commonly referred to, represent great opportunity. Restaurants and game developers have taken advantage of the market, and now independent programmers are taking over by storm. With the number of smartphone users pretty much doubling, more apps are being developed for them to use whether it's for humorous or serious purposes.
