Google DeepMind has introduced a new watermarking solution dubbed 'SynthID,' which serves the purpose of affixing labels onto images in order to confirm their origin as AI-generated creations. 'SynthID' has been meticulously integrated within Google's AI-driven image generation system, Imagen, to help establish trust between the viewer and the creator of the AI-generated image. The feature hopes to combat common AI issues such as AI-generated deepfakes, nonconsensual porn, and copyright infringements.
“If you add a watermarking component to image generation systems across the board, there will be less risk of harms like deepfake pornography,” commented Sasha Luccioni, AI researcher at Hugging Face.
The tool's debut will be restricted to Imagen users, granting them the ability to fashion images through the platform.
