 Indian Newspaper Suggests Google Phone Launch is 2 Weeks Away Newspapers in India are reporting that Google is two weeks from launching in their country after talks with major Indian cellular service providers. Rumor of simultaneous launching in Europe and possibly the US are being fueled. Will Google make the jump into hardware? Will they be a carrier or just be content selling phones and services? They have definitely indicated interest in the cellular market in the past, and there has been much speculation on what their phone will look like. Google has deep pockets, and massive reach via its main site and YouTube; overnight, the company could become a major player in the phone biz!
 A simultaneous launch across the US and Europe is expected, and announcements would be sent to media firms in India and other parts of the world. The paper reports Google plans to invest a staggering $7-8 billion for its global telephony foray. In India, it is also believed to be in talks with providers to offer data and content and platforms including Instant Messaging (IM) and Search functions.
