DoorDash Debuts a Two-Step ID Verification Process for Ordering Alcohol

Food delivery and takeout platform DoorDash has announced the launch of a new safety feature designed to make sure that customers ordering alcohol deliveries are of legal drinking age. The new in-app safety measure will require DoorDash deliverers to scan customers' IDs with the DoorDash app, confirming their identity and age, before handing them their booze.
Previously, DoorDash customers only needed to show their physical IDs to a delivery person. The new feature will work in conjunction with the app's already-existing in-app pre-order ID verification tool. The new two-step verification process has already been piloted by the company in a handful of states, including Dallas, Maimi, Pheonix, and Seattle, and will now be rolled out across the entire country.
“With today’s announcement of two-step or dual ID verification, we’re setting a new industry standard for responsible alcohol delivery,” said Erik Ragotte, DoorDash’s general manager of alcohol, in a statement. “The new safety measures will help ensure alcohol is delivered to people over the age of 21. We will continue to innovate and find even more ways to promote responsible alcohol delivery.”
