Researchers tell us that our sense of smell has the power to influence our moods. Apparently, the right smell at the right time can put us in the mood to shop. A company, Scentair, specializes in selling “scents” to businesses. Companies such as Bloomingdale’s, Lexus, or Giant Eagle distribute the scents at point of purchase sites or through their HVAC systems. Here are some of the available scents: Ocean Mist, Green Tea & Lemongrass, Cinnamon Buns, Pizza, and my favorite, Dinosaur Dung.  Scent Marketing is how businesses are breaking through mundane and overused marketing gimmicks to reach customers emotionally.
