What do you get when you take Motor Trend’s “Car of the Year” and drop in Corvette’s new mammoth ZR1 6.2-liter, supercharged engine, then punk up the body trim and add hi-end interior features? You get the 550 horsepower, 550-lb-ft of torque, 2009 Cadillac CTS-V.
The 2009 Cadillac CTS-V with Corvette engine will make it a serious challenger for any sports sedan that the Europeans can make.
The muscle car mill is housed in a raised hood, and the CTS—which was remade for 2008—will wear new front and rear fascias that distinguish it as a V-series vehicle. A larger dihedral grille will facilitate engine breathing. Big 19-inch Michelin Pilot Sport 2-clad wheels cover six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo brakes. Power will be transferred to the rear wheels by either a six-speed manual or, for the first time in a Cadillac CTS-V, an automatic transmission (with steering wheel-mounted paddle-shifters). The CTS-V will feature 14-way adjustable Recaro performance seats trimmed in a suede-like microfiber that will also cover the steering wheel and shifter. The interior, which we found on the regular CTS to be one of the best GM has ever produced, now uses an Obsidian material across the center console and door trim. Surfaces are hand-stitched throughout, and the CTS-V includes Bose digital surround sound, a 40-gigabyte hard drive, advanced navigation, and Bluetooth capability.
