BRAC is an internationally-known development organization that is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh but expanded to ten different countries and now affecting about 126 million individuals.
What SocialBusiness.org will focus on here, however, is its social enterprise initiatives in part because of the intriguing way in which its evolution is framed according to BRAC. Essentially, the organization explains that since its development of social enterprise -- which spans activities such as poultry, dairy, printing, recycled paper, cold storage, solar, sericulture and sanitary napkin delivery kits -- was created apart from the now global discussion of social entrepreneurship. It's an inside and bottom-up or bottom-out model that has created a unique setting for its goals toward social, environmental and financial sustainability.
