Body braces have been used for years as a non-surgical treatment for preventing further spinal curvature in scoliosis patients.
Since scoliosis is a condition that's constantly changing, a one-off body brace does not always accommodate the needs of a patient. In order to work around this, WASP Medical is developing 3D-printed corsets that can quickly be created and produced. At the same time a 3D scan of a patient's torso is captured, the technology involved is also able to pick up on curves in the spine and correct them in the digital model. These custom printed body braces offer a cost-effective, efficient and recyclable solution to models of the past.
As with other 3D printing innovations, this system has the ability to reduce minor discomforts and potentially prevent patients from having to get surgery in extreme cases.
