The Antro Solo from Hungary is a gas-electric hybrid car with a unique power arrangement that also utilizes solar energy. When all power sources fail, you can even peddle your way.
The Antro Solo seats three people, with the driver in middle. It achieves over 100 mile per gallon and can go 87 mph. In order to keep its weight below 600 pounds (270kg), Antro Solo is built entirely out of carbon fiber and composites.
Currently in prototype, the $18,000 eco car is projected to be available in 2012.
The engine is a gas-electric hybrid with a twist. A large array of roof-mounted photo-cells can charge the battery to extend the EV range. What if it’s cloudy and/or night? Start peddling! That’s right, the Solo comes with pedals that each passenger can crank in order to charge the battery. That’s slick, and perfect for popping down to the corner for milk. and of course, it can always run off it’s diesel motor. Antro’s also thinking about a 6-passenger Duo model. In fact, the Duo might just be two Solo’s joined at the hip.
