To promote worldwide appreciation of beards and moustaches, Beard Team USA is preparing to represent the United States at the biennial World Beard and Moustache Championships.

The 2009 WBMC takes place in Anchorage, Alaska on May 23rd. Members in 11 different countries will compete in a variety of categories ranging from the dainty Dali moustache to the gnarly full beard freestyle.

The video above, taken at the 2008 Beard and Moustache Competition in Germany, offers a little preview of the festivities in store for competitors. The video below, well, it’s just to let you know that beards and moustaches can be fun in a disturbing way.

 The newly formed Australian beard team, the Australian Bushrangers is bringing its own band to Anchorage-- The Beards -- to play "songs about beards, for people with beards" at the Friday night opening party. (worldbeardchampionships)
