In India, there are many acid attack survivors due to the rate of violence of this nature that is often directed toward women. Sheroes' Hangout is a cafe run by such women, as a way to integrate themselves back into society, earn enough money to be independent and raise money for the 'Stop Acid Attacks' campaign that supports victims.

The cafe is run on a pay as you wish system, which actually works out well as most people who go there would rather spend food money at a place where proceeds go to a good cause rather than another fast food chain. The women serve coffee and treats as well as tell their stories to customers, many of whom are from around the world.

By sparking conversations around a problem that has been largely stigmatized in the country, these acid attack survivors are able to feel accepted, increase their confidence and raise awareness about the serious issue.
