Philip Spooner was by far the most touching testimony for the hearing on gay marriage in Maine. The 86-year-old WWII vet for gay marriage gave a moving speech in support of equal rights for gays and lesbians.

There have been many speeches in support of gay rights, but Philip Spooner’s had an added quality. This veteran served his country many years ago, and sacrificed a lot. His devotion to the cause is touching, and his YouTube video has now garnered over 340,000 views, and a five star rating.

The woman at my polling place asked me do I believe in equality for gay and lesbian people. I was pretty surprised to be asked a question like that. It made no sense to me. Finally I asked her: what do you think I fought for in Omaha Beach? (boingboing.net)
