EEStor, a startup based in Austin, says it has "technologies for replacement of electrochemical batteries." It is a simple statement that could bring a paradigm shift basically ending the days of the internal combustion engine. Using ultracapacitor technology EEStor is promising that you will be able to plug in your electric car for five minutes and drive for 500 miles. Investor ZENN Motors will also be EEStor's first customer when they begin shipping later this year.
Implications - It's ironic to see the interest in EEStor because all of this nearly didn't happen. It was only when energy insiders spotted the words "technologies for replacement of electrochemical batteries" that the interest was raised. This, theoretically, could mean the United States could stop being so dependent on gasoline.
