The One Man Sauna, a project put together by German architectural firm Modulorbeat, is quite literally a sauna situated within the grounds of an abandoned factory in Bochum, Germany. The sauna was created as part of an ongoing effort to reinvigorate the local area following the factory's closure and subsequent job losses.
The One Man Sauna is 7.5 meters tall and was constructed out of stacked concrete frames, usually associated with shaft mines. The structure comprises three levels -- a plunge pool at the bottom, a sauna in the middle and a relaxation space on the top floor. The relaxation space features a hatch that can be opened to let in outside air. People can navigate between the levels via a ladder.
The project aims to encourage local residents to participate in the reinvigoration of their city following the factory closure.
