Artist Nickolay Lamm recreated a realistic Barbie to look like a normal and average 19-year old.
Giving the classic Barbie doll to young, impressionable children sends the wrong message, and promotes unhealthy eating habits. Although Barbie is just a toy, many girls feel that she represents the standard of beauty, and as a result they compare themselves to the toy and try to recreate themselves to look more like this plastic doll. The recreated Barbie is still depicted wearing her signature colorful clothing, but she has full proportions and curves.
Lamm told news reporters, "I wanted to see if an average-sized Barbie had market potential” which is does. Parents may feel more comfortable handing their child a doll that resembles normal-sized women.
