15 Irish Culture Celebrations

From Breeders Cup Horses to Guinness

Any day is a good day to be Irish, but with Ireland-bred Goldikova winning the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Santa Anita, today’s an especially good day to proclaim roots in Ireland.

Whether you’re Irish because your ancestors were born there or because your alcoholic beverage of choice is Guinness, celebrate Goldikova’s Breeders’ Cup win by perusing the other Irish successes in this cluster. Jockey Olivier Peslier will probably honor his winning Breeders’ Cup ride with champagne, but after watching some of these Guinness ads, I’m more in the mood for stout!

There’s far more to Ireland than Breeders’ Cup horses and beer, however. For example, did you know that Ireland banned a video game for being too gross? And a recent campaign gave away free event tickets to sperm donors to raise awareness.
