In this speech, physicist Sean Gourley explains how he has merged the study of mathematics, namely probability, with politics and war.
Startled by the number of conflicts and high death tolls plaguing so many countries, Sean Gourley established a team of researchers and scientists to attempt to understand war with a variety of data. This team collected raw data from over 130 sources and created a database with information covering the timing, location and size of attacks, as well as the types of weapons.
With this data, Sean Gourley was able to track the same problem in a number of war-torn countries, all of which face different socioeconomic statuses, experience different political landscapes and religions. He and his team even developed an equation capable of predicting an attack.
