When people gather to practice yoga with the moon on the Detroit RiverFront, comfortable apparel, yoga mats and glowing batons are all accessories to the activity.
The nighttime classes are part of the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy's 'Live the Riverfront' initiative, which is free and provides space for up to 150 people to connect with nature each week.
The unique class offers an innovative way to introduce new people to the practice and inspires a new appreciation of movement for those who are already familiar with some poses. Outside of the studio, this event inspires community-building with people and the natural environment. The Riverfront Parks Committee also hosts daytime classes by the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania during the day, which shows how accessible this class format can be.
