Japanese-Inspired Sculptureal Lighting

AOAO Design the Wonder Things Inspired by ikigai and bosei

Amsterdam-based studio AOAO introduces its new Wonder Things series which is a range of sculptural lighting fixtures that are meant to evoke a sense of introspection and self-reflection. The overall inspiration behind the collection stems from the Japanese concepts of ikigai and bosei.

The larger piece in the series is Bosei, which is a translation of 'motherhood.' The studio aimed to create a design that represents a feeling of comfort and protection, creating a shape that represents something that is different on both sides to reflect the qualities of motherhood. It is made from gypsum and the walls of the lamp are supported by metal mesh and fiberglass along with perforated details to symbolize protection.
