Water Glasses are a conceptual eyewear project by XYZ Integrated Architecture that replaces conventional frames with a minimalist system of lenses suspended from a paracord. Developed since 2019, the design eliminates temples and hinges, allowing the lenses to rest on the face during wear, hang below the chin when not in use, or function as a necklace without requiring a separate case. Manufactured with optical lenses supplied by Divel Italia, the project reconsiders how sunglasses can be carried and worn in environments such as beaches, swimming pools, and rivers.
The collection includes single-, double-, and triple-lens configurations, expanding the design into wearable accessories that combine functional eyewear with sculptural forms. Irregular lens shapes and contrasting paracord colors create distinctive visual compositions while maintaining the lightweight construction. Photography for the project was produced at the Tbilisi Olympic Pool, emphasizing the intended relationship between the eyewear and aquatic settings.

What Makes This Trend Stand Out
- Frame-free Eyewear
- Minimal lens suspension systems signal opportunities for eyewear that reduces mechanical components while improving comfort, portability, and visual distinction.
- Aquatic Wearables
- Beach, pool, and river settings are inspiring accessories designed around wet environments, creating space for products that merge utility, durability, and lifestyle expression.
- Convertible Accessories
- Eyewear that shifts between sunglasses, neckwear, and sculptural jewelry reflects demand for multifunctional objects that reduce the need for separate storage or cases.
Sectors Adopting This
- Eyewear
- Unconventional frame architectures offer manufacturers new pathways to differentiate sunglasses through lightweight construction, modular lens arrangements, and environment-specific use cases.
- Fashion Accessories
- Sculptural lens shapes and visible cord systems expand the role of eyewear as adornment, supporting crossover products between functional optics and wearable design.
- Outdoor Recreation
- Aquatic-focused carry solutions highlight potential for gear that remains accessible during swimming, sunbathing, and waterside activities without compromising style or convenience.
