Many people were introduced to the not-so-melodic voice of the vuvuzela during the 2010 World Cup. As a result, few people will argue on behalf of the vuvuzela’s loud and grating noise. The United Arab Emirates has concerns about the plastic horns and has issued a vuvuzela fatwa.
Because of concerns that the noise from vuvuzelas is harmful to human hearing in less than two minutes of exposure, the UAE General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments issued a health-related ban in the form of a vuvuzela fatwa.
