The Vivienne Westwood FW2010 collection reimagines the archetypal princess. Under Queen Viv's direction, the modern princess dons smudged makeup, a thrown-together dishevelment, a drawn-on mustache and an oversized, block-colored cardboard crown.

Implications - Fairy tale fashion saw a revival during the recession as fashionistas yearned for nostalgia and the innocence of childhood. Princess fashion and accessories flooded the market, but some innovative designers strayed away from the obvious, saccharine imagery, releasing more adult runway collections that reflected the aesthetic of a grittier modern princess.
