Square Enix has provided development funding to Danish studio BetaDwarf to accelerate the production of Vaultbreakers, a top-down action role-playing game. This investment follows a series of public playtests and a new trailer reveal, underscoring Square Enix’s interest in high-quality, community-driven titles and BetaDwarf’s demonstrated ability to refine Vaultbreakers through iterative testing. Although no official release window has been announced, the funding is intended to expand the developer’s resources and support ongoing playtests that have drawn significant participation from players worldwide.
Vaultbreakers positions itself as a hardcore PvPvE ARPG in which players assume the role of Vaultguard champions tasked with exploring dynamically unfolding missions and extracting valuable relics. Encounters with the Changeling faction—unpredictable shapeshifters controlled by advanced AI or other players—can be approached through combat, cooperation, or avoidance, creating emergent tactical scenarios. Character progression relies on selecting from various champions, unlocking and equipping perks, crafting or looting gear, and awakening Artifacts that grant passive abilities, all within a world that reacts to both player and NPC actions.
