Desktop Bamboo Walking Machine

The Humble Velocipede is Inspired by Theo Jansen's Strandbeest

Forget about stress balls and other office contraptions that help to make the day go by faster, The Humble Velocipede is all that a person will need. This unique toy is described as a "desktop bamboo walking machine," by the designers. Modeled after Theo Jansen's Strandbeest kinetic sculpture, The Humble Velocipede is a small-scale version that works almost the same way. Of course, it needs a little help from humans to get moving.

Designed by Small Wonder Toys, The Humble Velocipede is a simple creation. It has a single steel rod crankshaft in the middle onto which the wooden legs made from bamboo protrude from. The legs are composed of triangles and rectangles to minimize material waste and maximize production speed.
