Hexoray, a startup based in Belgium, has launched an innovative swimming vest that is designed to come to the aid of swimmers who may find themselves in a vulnerable situation or at risk of drowning when in open water away from help.
The 'SwimVest' comprises a trio of airbags that are woven with nylon and sheathed in polyurethane, with two of the airbags situated near the wearer's chest and the third behind the neck. When a wearer is swimming without any trouble, the vest stays flat and doesn't interfere with the swimmer's streamlining. However, if they suffer a cramp, get confronted by a heavy current or suffer another kind of accident, they can simply pull a toggle to inflate the vest, allowing them to float on the water.
Currently the subject of a crowdfunding campaign, this inflatable swimming vest can be reserved for a pledge of around $195.
