Spotify is aiming to increase its already 170 million monthly user base with a new stripped-down version of its app known as Spotify Lite. Designed as a more compact and data-friendly than the existing Spotify app, this stripped down version is just 15MB and includes a host of nixed features. Offline playback, Spotify Connect and extreme quality playback have been removed in Spotify Lite. This new version of the app also limits users' ability to pick individual songs and will shuffle all the time.
The Spotify Lite app also sets limits on data to ensure users can better manage their data resources. This limit will stop the app, and user, from gobbling up monthly data and even indicates data allowance before the next billing cycle.
