Instead of simply creating new and disposing old connected gadgets, Frolic Studio's Smartians aims to turn products into smart machines. Designed as a new proof-of-concept, Smartians consists of a kit of cloud-connected motors and attachments meant to imbue old products with new mechanical functions. The motors and attachments range in a variety of uses but all of them connect to Google Home or Amazon Echo.
The Smartians kit has yet to be fully produced but designers are working to finalize the kit by testing consumer interest. Frolic Studios is hoping it can move forward with the kit and is looking to introduce AI capabilities like the ones seen in the Nest thermostat.
