Women in a Romanian Prison Receive Cameras to Document Everyday Life

A Romanian prison for women recently gave out six digital cameras to prisoners so they could take snapshots of everyday life. The gallery above offers a sample of the images that followed.

According to some of the guards, the prisoners were initially frightened and bewildered by the cameras, but eventually got used to them. The Romanian prison looks frightening, but for some women, these cameras provided some much-needed entertainment.

Implications - Many privileged consumers within society would prefer to turn a blind eye to the real-life tragedies and misfortunes experienced by others. Companies that choose to exploit such adversities will not only garner the attention of a wide range of people, they will also be applauded for their compassion and commitment to making the world a better place.
