Photographer Dave Imms proves that roller derby teams are not always overly aggressive and violent with his new photo series featuring the London Roller Girls. Throughout his career, Imms has tried to dispel stereotypes surrounding niche figures, from referees to diehard pet owners. Now he’s tackled roller derby culture, depicting some striking women who embody strong femininity.

Roller derby is a sport known for drawing blood and causing a lot of rivalry between teams. The London Roller Girls, however, wanted to prove that these stereotypes are broken as soon as the girls leave the court. Imms captures each woman in a powerful stance as they stare forcefully into the camera while wearing their roller derby pads and helmet. Their strong gazes pierce through the camera and into the viewers as if challenging them to a challenge.

With this new photo series, Dave Imms has proven that stereotypes are often meant to be broken.
