High-Res Streaming Sticks

Roku’s New Streaming Stick Line Refreshes Compact 4K Playback

Roku introduced two compact streaming sticks — the Roku Streaming Stick and the Streaming Stick Plus — featuring a slimmer HDMI-sized design and TV-powered operation. Priced at $30 and $40, respectively, the models were rolled out to replace older sticks with faster performance and more portable hardware. The sticks lack premium remote extras like Find My Remote and backlit buttons, which remain exclusive to Roku’s higher-end remotes.

Both devices are notably thinner than previous generations, with the power port positioned at the end to reduce cord clutter and free adjacent HDMI space. The Streaming Stick Plus adds 4K support for higher-resolution TVs, while the baseline Stick targets HD displays; both offer Roku’s familiar interface and access to the Roku Channel. Their compact form makes them easy to move between TVs or take on trips without needing an outlet.

For consumers, these sticks deliver a low-cost path to modernize aging TVs, boosting responsiveness and image clarity while simplifying setup. The lineup underlines a broader trend toward pocket-sized, TV-powered streaming hardware that prioritizes affordability, portability and straightforward user experience.
