Kiki Grammatopoulos' Rewild the Run Disperses Plants During Activity
Laura McQuarrie — July 17, 2023 — Fashion
Central Saint Martins graduate Kiki Grammatopoulos created Rewild the Run, a unique pair of running shoes that allows runners to effortlessly disperse plants as they're on the move. These unconventional running shoes feature a chunky sole with small hooks for gripping dirt and plant matter, and naturally mimic the phenomenon of epizoochory. Just as many animals inadvertently disperse seeds as they travel, these shoes make it possible for runners to do the same.
These shoes were mainly inspired by two specific plants, the cocklebur and the grapple plant, which are recognizable for their burrs and barbs.
These trainers inspire people to think more closely about where they tread and their relationship with nature and help to support rewilding.
