Full-Body Motion-Tracking Devices

The Refract Technologies 'AXIS' Uses a Body as a Controller

'Refract Technologies,' the Singaporean interactive entertainment company, has created the 'AXIS,' an untethered full-body motion-tracking system. The AXIS was inspired by motion-capture technologies used in the development of games and other digital media. The motion-capture technology was then blended with virtual reality tracking systems to create a minimalist full-body tracking device.

Refract Technologies sought to make body tracking more accessible with the AXIS. Whereas most tracking systems use more than 20 nodes, with the average being 17 nodes, the AXIS has reduced this count to 10 on its own, or seven when paired with a VR headset. The AXIS is designed to be set up in a few minutes, even by a customer not familiar with virtual reality technologies. This was a motivating factor towards the simplicity of the AXIS, as Refract found that many devices use numerous wires and plugs that can be very difficult to operate.
