Valio is Reducing its Carbon Footprint with Alternative Packaging

Finland-based brand Valio has announced that it is using recycled plastic food packaging as part of its commitment to sustainability as it moves towards an ambitious goal. The new packaging announcement is part of the brands role in helping Finland to cut its carbon footprint related to milk to zero by 2035. This is being achieved by utilizing 90% recycled plastic for the brands delicacy cheeses, while more than 50% of the Mifu jauhis and Mifu slice packages will be recycled plastic.

Package Development Manager of Valio Juhana Pilkama spoke on the new recycled plastic food packaging initiative saying, "Using recycled plastic reduces the plastic industry’s environmental emissions by 40-60% compared to making the plastic from fossil oil. Our goal is that in 2020, all Valio sliced cheese packages in Finland are made from at least 50% recycled plastic. In the future, roughly 10% of all our packaging plastic in Finland will be recycled. That matters a lot when it comes to the environment.”
