The Pyra is a smart oven that was constructed using 3D-printing techniques. While 3D-printing has been used to create all kinds of things, its use to create a working kitchen appliance represents whole new territory.
Developed by Oakland-based company Fathom, the Pyra is connected to the cloud via WiFi and can be controlled using a companion app. The oven doesn't feature any physical button. Meanwhile, the app is highly customizable and allows users to adjust control options.
The Pyra smart oven is a great example of how design and technology can be leveraged in unconventional ways to create fantastic results. As Fathom's director of research Carlo Quinonez says, this design will "inspire designers and engineers to challenge the way they think about product design and manufacturing."
