Casey’s is expanding freshly made chicken wings across its convenience-store network, adding another in-store prepared-food option. The chain operates about 3,000 locations in 19 states, with wings currently available at roughly 900 stores.
The company plans to offer wings at all locations within two years. The rollout is moving to stores served by its Terre Haute, Indiana, distribution center, followed by locations supported by its Joplin, Missouri, facility. Wings are already sold at stores supplied from its Ankeny, Iowa, distribution center.
Wings are creating a distinct purchase occasion: 38% of purchasers ordered only wings, indicating demand beyond pizza add-ons. In Des Moines, wing sales increased 46% year over year last quarter. The expansion reflects convenience stores’ push into restaurant-style prepared food. For Casey’s, wings could attract new visits, increase purchase frequency and diversify food sales beyond its established pizza business.
