Ponsawan Vuthisatkul Designed the Six-Piece 'New Normal' Collection

Ponsawan Vuthisatkul is a graduate from the Royal College of Art and she designed The New Normal collection of serving tools. The tools are specifically created to challenge the way that people understand portions and combat obesity. The portion-controlling tools come in a variety of sizes, including extra small, small, medium, large and extra large. The collection draws from the concept of how nutritionists use individual hand sizes to compare portions to a palm of protein, a thumb of fat, two handfuls of vegetables, a handful of fruit and a fist of carbs.

The New Normal collection challenges the traditional way of measuring food but still assists in estimating the portions for the five basic food groups, conditioning a long-term behavioral change. Ponsawan Vuthisatkul explains that her research discovered that 39% of adults are overweight globally and a major contributing factor is portion distortion.
