Phone-Free Tourist Islands

Ulko-Tammio Promotes Digital Detox and Connection with Nature

The fully phone-free tourist island is now a reality in the Eastern Gulf of Finland National Park. Embracing the crucial need for a digital detox in the Internet age, Ulko-Tammio encourages visitors to enjoy nature without distractions. The destination is believed to be a "world's first."

The phone-free tourist island was made possible through a collaboration between Visit Kotka-Hamina and Parks & Wildlife Finland. Hosted for the summer, the phone-free experience highlights the benefits of taking a break from technology to improve overall well-being and mental health. According to Terhi Mustonen, psychologist and Program Manager of the Limitless Gaming and Limitless Social Media programs at the Sosped Foundation, "even a short digital fast can be useful and improve our well-being and help relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression."
