Judging by the colors and fluidity of these images, it'll be hard to guess they are canyons, and this is because Peter Lik is a genius when it's about capturing the beauty of nature. The self-taught, nature photographer knows nature's best angle, and his talent is evident in this series.
Born in Australia, Lik has been exposed to breathless landscapes from an early age, which explains why he decided to travel around the globe to keep finding new beautiful sources of inspiration. The Canyon images belong to a series titled 'Spirit of America,' which were taken while on his trips to the United States. At first sight, these photos seem like a colorful blanket caressed by the wind, but in reality they're rocks and sand forming stunning patterns and tonality. Also, the light and angle of the camera intensify the beauty of the landscape.
Peter Lik doesn't need to create fictional worlds to encounter extreme beauty.
