The Oto HOME Lets Parents Perform Ear Exams Using Smartphones

The Oto HOME is a smartphone attachment, created by San Francisco-based medical technology firm CellScope, that can be used to carry out ear exams. This device gives parents the ability to carry out ear exams at home before sharing the recorded video to their pediatrician.

The Oto HOME package comprises an iPhone 5/5S-compatible case and an otoscope attachment that is mounted over the phone's camera. Recorded footage can be shared with physicians via the Oto Connect service.

Oto HOME is currently only available to residents of California, who can pre-order it for $79. Reisdents of other US states can sign up for notifications of when the contraption will be available to them. CellScope also offers a pediatrician-focused version of the Oto HOME, dubbed the Oto PRO. It is available for pre-order in the US for $299.
